What Are Tahitian Pearls?

The breathtaking Tahitian pearl is the most exotic of pearls.

Tahitian pearls are cultured in the black-lipped Pinctada margaritifera cumingii oyster that is found only in the warm saltwater lagoons of French Polynesia in the South Pacific Ocean.

Tahitian pearls typically will reach a size of 8 to 14mm in diameter, are cultured with a shell bead nucleus, becoming more valued with increasing lustre, quality and size.

Also known as black South Sea pearls, Tahitian pearls are naturally silver, grey or black in body colour, with shimmering overtones of pink, green and blue. The most sought after colour combinations are called peacock, aubergine, cherry and pistachio.
